Lara Croft's Backpack

Description

I finally finished making the classic backpack for my cosplay!

The design for Lara's backpack has been about the same from TR1 through Angel Of Darkness.
The general look is a small leather backpack with two brass buckles. But, I've realized upon closer examination, that there are some
small differences from gameplay and cutscenes throughout the series. For example, I realized that the backpack has two side pockets and a front pocket - but only one snap for the top flap - in The Last Revelation. While in the other games, it's just the buckles.
As for Anniversary, the color of the bag is a bit paler than the original dark brown color and the buckles are silver.
Also, in Angel Of Darkness, Legend and Underworld, the bag is black.

You'd think they would stick with just one design... ^^;

Well, I went out and bought about two yards of faux brown leather and set to work...for two months.

The big issue I had with the bag was making the pockets just right, and buying the correct set of buttons. X_X
First, I bought a set of snap fasteners (but they were actually rivets/studs); so I bought another pair of actual snap fasteners but then the damn snap tool didn't work. As a last resort, I bought a set of sewing buttons. All that looking, shopping and fussing...for buttons!
Then I ran out of fabric to finish the other half of the bag so I had to buy more. So, really, the bag took about two weeks to do.
As for the pockets. So. Many. Pins! (It was not fun trying to move my hands around the inside of the bag sewing the pockets down)

I bought the perfect set of bronze buckles for the back, I'm real happy with those.
I also found that while trying on the backpack, the straps were too tight; so I had to sew on extra fabric to the straps and added
two brass fastener buckles (not shown in picture) so it would be more comfortable.
I'm a bit disappointed that I was unable to get the bronze snap fasteners to work, but I do like the sewing buttons.

After all that trouble, I'm very proud of this bag and love how it turned out. :happycry:

But, the fabric I bought is very thin and fragile.
I wish I could've doubled layered the bag to make it stronger, but I didn't want to back down from a half-finished bag.
But, in the future, I might try to make a more durable version.

I don't know how it will hold out during the convention this year, we'll see.
